Welcome Back!

September 2018
Dear Sussex-Wantage Families: Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!!

The mission of the SW PTO is to enrich and enhance the education of all our students. To meet this goal, your PTO actively fundraises with various programs and activities throughout the school year. The money we raise enables the school to offer many programs that it would not otherwise be able to provide.

To continue meeting these goals, we need your participation. Please consider joining, volunteering your time, attending meetings and sharing your ideas as members of the PTO. Meeting dates and times are on the attached PTO events 2018 as well as on our events calendar. Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00pm with a Movie Night for the children. We hope to see you there!

You will have opportunities throughout the year to get involved. We will send out a request for volunteers as event dates approach. Please make sure to Like “Sussex-Wantage Parent Teacher Organization” on Facebook and if you would like to get notified for volunteer opportunities please join our “Sussex- Wantage PTO Volunteers” group.

With your help we can make the 2018-2019 an awesome school year!!

Sincere thanks,
Sussex-Wantage PTO Executive Board

We were extremely thrilled to have held first annual SW PTO Father Daughter Dance Friday night!

The dance was a tremendous success and we raised over $1,300 for our Sussex-Wantage students.

This was truly a COMMUNITY event!!!

We couldn’t have done this without the following people:

Thank you to the  Sussex Fire Department and to the McKay family for the Hall donation. Without you we couldn’t have had such overwhelming success without the use of your firehouse, and for this we are truly grateful.

Thank you to DJ Ray Cordts for coming and spinning the tunes that kept everyone on their feet dancing for hours.

Thank you to Mrs. Hageman and her family for providing the back drop for our photo booth.

Thank you to Grace Musilli for running our photo booth.

Thank you to Lorenzo’s Pizza for always accommodating our events.

Thank you to Kinnelon Stop and Shop for donating snacks and beverages.

Thank you to all of the crafty Sussex-Wantage students and teachers who created the decorations and centerpieces that really turned the Sussex Firehouse into a magical night.

Thank you to our anonymous donor for the carnations.

Thank you to Mrs. Schneider, Miss Preston, Mrs. Slockbower, Mrs. Sparta, Mrs. Hocko, Mrs Marangi,  Mrs. Beauchamp, Mrs. Lain, Mrs. Cordts, Gianna Marangi, Michael Barbieri, and Samantha Glanville, for donating your time and working hard to ensure that everything ran smoothly on the night of the dance.

Thank you to the SW PTO Executive Board for being supportive in this endeavor and to a small but amazing team of moms, dads, and teachers – Lori Luberger, Kelly Flynn, Jess Musilli, Lucia Stephenson, Diane Barbieri, Cindy Tiger, Sara Maas and Stacey Miller – who worked countless hours to bring it all together.
Without you this would not have happened.

And to anyone else we may have forgotten, thank you.

On behalf of The Sussex-Wantage Parent Teacher Organization we look forward to more family/community event successes ahead, including an amazing Mother and Son event coming soon.

With Sincere Gratitude,

President’s Message

This has been a thrilling year so far with a whirlwind of a September as Students, Teachers, and Parents adjust to another new year of school. October kicked off the PTO ‘season’ with a great first meeting and movie night both well attended. What warms my heart are the teachers, parents and young adults who volunteered their time and energy to supervise 80 children in a dark auditorium!! My sincere thanks go out to them. I also would like to thank Mr. Mooney, Mr. Higgins, Mr. Schwarz, Mr. Gall and Mrs. Connors for attending. And of course a huge thank you to Mrs. Speck for providing a fantastic discussion on why our children are learning math differently these days. In addition to our meeting we also had our Yankee Candle fundraiser and our Trunk-or-Treat event where we raised over $6100 and $620 net respectively.

Thank you to all our volunteers to help make these events fun and effective for our children’s programs. I would also like to thank Lorenzo’s Pizza for donating three gift certificates as prizes for the Trunk-or-Treat. We have our upcoming meeting on November 7 where we will be raffling off a Family Four Pack of movie tickets at the Flagship Cinemas (formerly Majestic) in Matamoras.

One last word… part of this organization’s goal is to raise funds for programs for our children, and bring together community. We have a great number of local businesses in this community and I am pleased to have these businesses assist our programs through sponsorships. If you are part of a local business or know someone that does and would like to be part of our monthly sponsorship program, please have them contact us. I would like to welcome our first monthly Gold sponsor, Tim’s Auto & Truck Care Center.

Thank you,

Josh Wagner

SW PTO Co-President
